OREGON CITY, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The scene on one Oregon City street after a local man shot himself and his wife was ominous — glass on the ground and bullet holes in fences served as grim reminders of the crime that took place Monday afternoon.
Dorothy and Gene Curry were in their home when the shooting occurred — just feet away from the crime scene.
“The woman was holding her chest and said, ‘my husband shot me, I am going to die,'” Dorothy told KOIN 6 News.
It was the Curry’s who called 911 after the shooting, and another neighbor who sheltered Jan Moffatt after her husband, Timothy, shot her multiple times. Both of the Moffatts were in their vehicles when the shooting occurred. Timothy turned the gun on himself after shooting his wife.
Jan remains in critical condition from Monday’s shooting. Her husband passed away from his injuries Wednesday.
Police have learned the victim had a restraining order against her husband. As investigators continue to learn more about the case, the Curry’s reflect on an attempted murder-suicide just feet from their home — and wonder what could drive a husband to commit such a crime.
