200K-plus powerless as storm ravages Oregon, Washington

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Freezing rain and ice-coated roads have ravaged power lines, roofs, cars, trees, businesses and everything in the region in a major winter storm that continues into Saturday night.

Power outages began early Friday. As of 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Portland General Electric reported about 195,273 customers experiencing outages in 6 counties, with about half of them in Clackamas County.

Pacific Power reported 21,646 customers were powerless as of 10:30 p.m.

At 10:30 p.m., Salem Electric reported about 3,000 customers were without power.

Because of the sheer volume of outages alongside the continuing hazardous conditions, restorations will likely take some time.
