PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Trooper Nic Cederberg will be awarded the National Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor by President Trump on Wednesday.

Trooper Cederberg was shot in the line of duty on December 25 2016 after a gun battle with a suspect in Washington County. He was shot 12 times.

Cederberg is a US Army veteran.

The award is the highest national award for valor a public safety officer can receive.

Oregon State Police say he showed bravery during the gun battle with suspect James Tylka, who is accused of murdering his 24-year-old estranged wife Kate Armand. He was killed in the exchange of gunfire.
