PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Sarah Iannarone, who ran against Ted Wheeler in the 2016 mayoral primary, announced Tuesday she’s running against him again.

Iannarone, who on her campaign website Sarah2020 describes herself as “a mom, good neighbor and urban policy wonk” used a video to lay out the choice between her and Wheeler.

“We have everything we need to make radical progress” on climate change, housing affordability and staggering inequality, she said in the video. “We need to trailblaze again.”

She called out Wheeler and said the problems he pledged to solve in 2016 “still plague Portland today, only now with increased urgency.” She said he “cloaked” his campaign “in the rhetoric of progressivism” but abandoned those ideals when he took office.

“In 2020, we are taking our city back.”

But nowhere in the announcement video did she lay out any specific plans to do any of that.

Wheeler hasn’t officially announced he’s running for another term but has said he intends to run again.

The Portland mayoral election is in 2020.
