PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Detectives have arrested a 20-year-old man and have charged him with one count of criminal conspiracy to commit murder stemming from a 2014 homicide.

Juston Neilson Nath was taken into custody by detectives Monday afternoon. He was then lodged into the Multnomah County Detention Center.

KOIN 6 News has learned that the new criminal conspiracy to commit murder stems from the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Andrew Leon Coggins Jr. He was killed in a drive-by shooting on Monday June 30, 2014, police said. The shooting occurred near North Fessenden Street and Fiske Avenue. Details of Nath’s alleged involvement in the death of Coggins Jr. have not been released. Police on Tuesday declined to release details about any additional suspects, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.Saturday evening arrest

Court documents show that Nath was arrested Saturday May 30 around 5:30 p.m. by police in North Portland. He was originally charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, first-degree forgery and possession of a loaded firearm.

The DA’s Office claims that on May 15, 2015, Nath forged a $20 bill. When police arrested him, they found him in possession of the loaded firearm, court documents state. His mother posted bail shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday and he was released.

Records from Saturday’s weapons case show an arrest warrant was issued for Nath after he “failed to appear” in court on Monday afternoon. His father, Aneil Nath, said by phone Tuesday that his son went to arraignment court on Monday and was arrested by detectives shortly before his court appearance.

“I don’t think he was in a gang,” Aneil Nath said by phone. “He came home every night.”

Aniel Nath said that his son grew up in Portland and lived at home. He had a job at a grocery store, his father said.

Law enforcement sources confirmed there are gang ties to the killing.

According to court records, on Monday night, Nath was observed in the jail calling to get someone to post his bail. When he was told that there is no bail for someone charged with criminal conspiracy to commit murder, “he grinned, showed no concern, shook his head.”

Nath appeared in court Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m and arraigned. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf and he is scheduled to appear in court June 10.
