PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Firefighters battled a 2-alarm blaze at a multi-level apartment complex in Southwest Portland early Wednesday morning, fire officials said.
Portland Fire & Rescue tweeted at 6:09 a.m. that crews were on scene of the fire near SW Alder and 12th.
Flames and smoke were reportedly billowing from a window of an apartment unit on the fifth floor as crews arrived. Firefighters knocked down the fire “remarkably fast” in about eight minutes, according to PF&R.
PF&R told KOIN 6 their crews’ quick response was critical to keeping the fire contained due to the building’s age and lack of a sprinkler system.
An ambulance was reportedly called to the scene as a precaution, but fire officials said no one was hurt in the incident.
SW 11th to SW 14th Street was closed briefly while crews worked the fire but has since reopened.
An investigation is underway to determine what caused the fire.
