SALEM, Ore. (KOIN) — A 20-year-old Salem man who allegedly used Facebook to lure 4 boys for sex is now in jail facing multiple charges.
Ioan Paul Oien contacted boys between ages 11-14 and said he was a teenager who was friends with a friend of theirs, Salem Police Dept. said in a release.
When he became their friend, he discussed sexual activity and contact with them, according to investigators.
Four victims have been identified so far.
Investigators also learned Oien posted Craigslist ads for free babysitting under the name “Paul”.
Salem police say parents should monitor their kids’ activity online to avoid situations like this.
“Make sure the computer is in a common room, they shouldn’t have computers in their room,” Lt. Dave Okada said. “It should be places where the family can observe what’s going on. They should monitor the communication they do.”
Anyone who has any information or concerns about this case is asked to call Salem Police Detective Jeff Staples at 503.588.6050, extension 7151.
Oien is lodged in Marion County Jail on charges of sexual abuse and luring a minor.Parent Tips for Internet SafetyParent Guide from the FBIInternet Safety from NetSmartz
