PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Volunteers showed up to the Springwater Corridor for the first SOLVE cleanup there in more than a year.

SOLVE Springwater Cleanup

Homeless camps kept volunteers away from the area recently, but since the trail was swept in September, there were some safer areas for volunteers.

“This is the first time in about a year we could come out on this stretch of the Springwater Corridor because it has been mostly cleaned up as far as active camps,” SOLVE CEO Maureen Fisher said. “So now, we are kind of picking up what’s left over.”

Fisher said a lot of families use the trail so they want to keep it clean and green.

The stretch of trail where volunteers picked up litter is much improved thanks to their efforts. A group of around 30 volunteers came from Oregon’s Beverage Recycling Cooperative also came to help with the cleanup.

There were 5 other SOLVE cleanup projects in Oregon on Saturday and with the break from the rain, it was a great day for it.
