PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Police arrested a 42-year-old man Sunday who they say was involved in the death of a man in December.
Portland Police arrested Alphonzo L. Johnson in the area of 9100 block of SE Duke Street at 10:30 a.m.
The investigation that led to the arrest of Johnson started Dec. 28 after officers responded to reports of a man staggering in the 9200 block of SE Clinton Street. When officers arrived, they found an unconscious man lying on the ground. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.
The man was later identified as 35-year-old Jonathan D. Lehman.
During the investigation, detectives believed Lehman was injured prior to callers contacting emergency officials.
Officials believe Johnson was involved in the Lehman’s death and was taken into custody on charges of manslaughter, assault and a probation violation for a previous conviction of a DUII.
The medical examiner’s officer performed an autopsy on Lehman Monday and determined he died from homicidal violence.
Johnson will be arraigned in Multnomah County Court Monday.
