PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 16-year-old boy will spend the next five years in the custody of the Oregon Youth Authority after he pled guilty to opening fire outside the Portland Police Bureau’s East Precinct.

The shooting happened on Saturday, March 14. According to police, officers were inside East Precinct when a large party let out at the East Portland Community Center.

Officers inside the precinct could hear people pounding on the front doors and windows. Two officers went to the front doors to see what was happening outside and as they opened the doors, they heard gunshots. No one was hurt, but officers determined that round had struck the police building.

Police arrested Dontae Eugene Mathis Jr. He pled guilty on Monday to one count each of attempted first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

He had originally been charged as an adult under Oregon Ballot Measure 11. He was charged with attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon, discharging a firearm in the city, and reckless endangering.
