PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Brian Fernandez, a star forward for the Portland Timbers, has voluntarily entered himself into the MLS’ Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program.

The 25-year-old will not be at any team activities until he’s assessed and cleared by the program’s doctors. He didn’t play in Sunday’s win over San Jose due to his automatic suspension he got after receiving a red card in the last game.

Fernandez has 11 goals and one assist under his belt ever since joining the team on May 6. However, he may not be cleared in time for playoffs.

KOIN 6 News will continue to follow this story as it develops.
