PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Thieves have broken into Portland food carts at seven locations in just a couple of weeks.
Nick’s Parkrose Pub and Food Corral is the latest on the list.
The latest burglaries have all taken place on the east side of Portland. How the thief or thieves got into the most recent food carts hit is a bit bizarre.
Nick’s Parkrose Pub and Food Corral is on NE Sandy Boulevard at 118th Avenue. Three carts in that same area were broken into overnight between Saturday and Sunday.
Although the thief or thieves got into one food cart by breaking open a door, at 2 others he or she broke in through air vents.
Those air vents were located on top of their food carts, and authorities believe the thief may have used a nearby fence to climb up and access those vents.
As with other recent burglaries, the thief grabbed cash, phones, electronics businesses use to run credit cards and more.
This is the seventh area burglarized in the past couple of weeks. In other locations, thieves cut dead bolts and locks to get in.
Many cart owners told KOIN 6 News they now leave no cash and take valuables with them each night.
Some are installing more security cameras.
