DEPOE BAY, Ore. (KOIN) — A 22-year-old woman who was described as a sweetheart by her family has not been seen in Depoe Bay since 2 a.m. Sunday.

Katharine Olivia Roe — Katy, as she is known — was reported missing by her grandmother Sunday morning, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.

Her grandmother, Patricia Summerton, told KOIN 6 News she and Katy live together. She said she picked Katy up at the Safeway in Newport — where she works — at midnight Saturday.

“She’d had kind of a rough day at work and so she wanted to go down and have a drink,” Summerton told KOIN 6 News. They went to Wing Wa — “our local little place, restaurant and pub, that everyone in town goes to” — and each had one drink.

“I was tired. I had to work the next day so I said, ‘Honey, I have to go home and go to bed. Let’s go home.’ And she said, ‘Grandma, I want to stay and finish my drink and hang out a little while.'”

Katy told her grandmother she would walk home. “I said, OK, see you when you get home.”

Summerton got home and said she decided to wait up. “She texted me at 2 o’clock: ‘On way home,'” she told KOIN 6 News. She was walking to her house in the Southpoint area of Depoe Bay.

A few minutes later she said she got another text that “the moon looked beautiful over the ocean, she might stand and look for a minute.”

That, Summerton said, “is the last I’ve heard from her.”

She tried texting her back, waited, texted again. When she didn’t arrive, Summerton said she grabbed a flashlight and went to look for her granddaughter.

When she couldn’t find her, she called the sheriff’s office.

Katy Roe is 4-feet-9, weighs around 90 pounds, with long brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing black pants, a white long sleeve shirt and a black fleece vest. She is likely wearing black tennis shoes and carrying a backpack.

Family members told KOIN 6 News her phone is dead and she hasn’t used any of her bank accounts.

“She’s a very, very responsible girl,” Summerton said. “Everybody in this town knows her and loves her, you know, everybody.”

Katy’s grandmother said she has no idea what happened.

“She’s the love of my life. I love her dearly. She’s my granddaughter,” Summerton said. “I’m not OK. I’m not OK at all.”

Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 541.265.4231.
