PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A large fight in North Portland left a woman critically hurt after she was hit by a car driven by a man she knew.
The fight happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 800 block of North Russell Street, police said. When officers arrived, they learned a man involved in the fight left the White Eagle bar with a woman and sped off.
About a block later, the driver – later identified as Avery Camacho — drove onto a sidewalk and crashed into a sign post. The woman in the car, Krystle Carruthers, 29, got out.
Camacho, 27, allegedly threw the car into reverse and hit Carruthers with the open car door. She fell to the ground and suffered a life-threatening head injury.
Another man was injured when Camacho’s car allegedly ran over his foot.
Witnesses to this crash then assaulted Camacho. He was arrested and faces multiple charges: second-, third- and fourth-degree assault, DUII, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. More charges may be coming, officers said.
The investigation continues into how the incident began.
