PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — All this season, the Portland Trail Blazers will celebrate their 50th anniversary in the NBA. Tuesday, they kicked off their preseason on the court of their original home, Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Over the years, Portland has become known as Rip City. Venerable Blazers announcer Bill Schonely came up with the phrase in the heat of a game between the Lakers and the Blazers. He told AJ McCord the story of how Rip City came to be.
