PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — If this was the last home game for the combo of Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson, Seattle fans got to see why this has been such a dynamic duo for 10 years.

Wilson threw for 4 touchdowns, including 3 to DK Metcalf, and the Seahawks defense did enough to keep the plucky but outmatched Lions caged in a 51-29 victory at Lumen Field.

Seattle, now 6-10, got started early and kept scoring nearly at will against Detroit, who fell to a league-worst 2-13-1.

The scoring

Rashad Penny took it to the end zone from 15 yards out to give the Seahawks a 7-0 lead with 5:46 left in the 1st quarter. Jason Myers added a 51-yard field goal before the period ended.

Penny hit paydirt again just 53 seconds into the 2nd quarter as Seattle opened up a 17-0 lead. But the Lions came back when Amon-Ra St. Brown ran it in from 26 yards to cut the lead to 17-7.

Seattle once again extended their lead when Russell Wilson connected with DK Metcalf on a 13-yard TD pass. The extra point was good for a 24-7 lead with 5:59 left in the first half.

The Seahawks padded their lead to 31-7 when Wilson and Tyler Lockett teamed up on a 1-yard pass with just 21 seconds left in the half.

It didn’t take long for Seattle to strike again. Wilson and Metcalf connected again on a beautiful throw-and-catch for a 13-yard score just 48 seconds into the second half, as the Seahawks opened a 38-7 lead.

St. Brown brought the Lions a little closer when he hauled in a 7-yard pass from Tim Boyle. Detroit then went for a 2-point conversion and made it to tighten the score, 38-15.

The Lions recovered the on-side kick and drove down the field to score. Boyle hit Tyler Decker on a tackle-eligible play from the 6 to bring Detroit to within 38-22.

Referree Tony Corrente was helped off the field in Seattle by athletic trainers after dropping to one knee on the field following a play midway through the 3rd quarter of the game. But Corrente returned to the field for the start of the fourth quarter in Seattle.

Early in the 4th quarter, Wilson and Metcalf connected for the 3rd time on a 1-yard score to expand Seattle’s lead to 45-22.

However, the Lions wouldn’t go away quietly. Boyle led them down the field on an 11-play, 75-yard drive capped by a 1-yard touchdown run from Jamaal Williams. With 7:04 left, it was a 2-score game again, 45-29.

Jason Myers added a 36-yard field goal to give Seattle a 48-29 lead with 5:03 left. The Lions drove down the field but Boyle was picked off and the Seahawks began a drive from Detroit’s 22. A minute later, Myers split the uprights from 42 to make Seattle’s lead 51-29.

Regardless of this game, the Seahawks will finish in last place in the NFC West for the first time since moving to the NFC in 2002. The last time the Seahawks finished last in their division was the AFC West in 1996.
