INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — We’re heading down the road to Atlanta and one week closer to The Big Game.
Anthony “AC” Calhoun is talking all the major headlines around the NFL leading up to Super Bowl LIII.
This week, AC talks to Dan Corso, Chairman of the Atlanta Super Bowl Host Committee Board of Directors.
“It was time for them to come back”
It had been nearly 20 years since Atlanta last hosted the Super Bowl. The last time the city hosted was in 2000 when the St. Louis Rams bested the Tennessee Titans in Super Bowl XXXIV.
“Atlanta had changed so much since our lasting hosting,” Corso said. “It was time for them to come back and experience it.”
Big event city
Atlanta has hosted a handful of major sporting events. In addition to Super Bowls IIIIV and LIII, the city has also hosted five Final Fours (including the upcoming 2020 event), an NCAA football championship game and the 1996 Olympics.
“There’s really only a few cities in the country that can host the scale and the quantity of the major events that are available,” Corso said. “Atlanta is certainly at the top of that list.”
