PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Hundreds living in the Portland metro area are without power Thursday morning thanks to powerful winds.
Portland General Electric has been busy restoring power to thousands after high winds and downed trees knocked out electricity. In a little more than an hour, crews had restored power to over half of the nearly 10,500 customers impacted. As of 11 a.m., however, PGE was listing 7,300 customers were in the dark.
Pacific Power has restored power to hundreds of customers, with only about 20 customers in the Willamette Valley without electricity as of 11 a.m. Earlier in the morning, the utility company reported its largest outage of the day which was impacting 880 Portlanders north of Mt. Tabor Park. Those customers have since had their power turned back on.
The number of Clark Public Utilities customers experiencing power loss has grown to 334.
Multiple Oregon schools canceled classes on Wednesday due to power outages.
Wind gusts are expected to push 50 mph around the Portland metro area Thursday, while stronger gusts will be blowing through the western Gorge. A wind advisory is in place until Friday morning.
